3 days of rain

That’s what we have to look forward to over our long weekend. Ah well, it’ll give us plenty of time indoors to read, I guess.

Speaking of reading, that’s about all we did today. We still have a bit to go before we’ve read everything, and then we’ll have to make our final decisions, but we did make good progress. We already have a decent pool of maybes. (We would have gotten a bit farther, but Kay accidentally read a few of the Child Fiction submissions before she realized. Whoops…)

The other thing I did today was make up the website pages for the conclusion of the Flash Fiction contest. Congrats again to the winner and runners-up: it was a large and impressive collection of submissions that you came out on top of!

It occurred to me that there are a lot of little details that I never mention – the tiny things we do that are nevertheless completely crucial to getting the magazine done. Like lists, for example, and spreadsheets. I have at least a dozen different lists and spreadsheets (and each MS Excel doc actually has at least 3 or 4 different pages). And banking. Research. Updating market listings. I could go on and on. I think I’ll start putting together a simple list (another one!) of these various things, and at some point in the future I’ll do one big separate post. The real minutiae is the easiest stuff to overlook, yet just as important as all the big, visible stuff.
