But it’s just a crazy game
Aug 10th, 2009 | By Bart Leib | Category: CG BlogWorldCon continues tomorrow, but not for us: we’re driving home tomorrow. It was a crazy whirlwind four days, and we had a blast, but we are very ready to be home.
Our friends the Wus had a great day today: Brianna Wu, who did the Issue 9 cover Free At Last, sold a gorgeous framed print of “Free At Last” at the Art Auction for $200; and Frank won the Hugo Award for Best Fan Artist! Congrats to both of them!
Congrats to the other Hugo winners too, and especially to Cheryl Morgan (Best Fan Writer), Phil & Kaja Foglio (Best Graphic Story, Girl Genius), and Elizabeth Bear (Best Novelette, “Shoggoths in Bloom”). Also extra congrats to Electric Velocipede and Weird Tales, for winning Best Fanzine and Best Semiprozine, respectively.
Not exactly a surprise, but Neil Gaiman won best Novel for The Graveyard Book, making it the first book ever to win both the Hugo and the Newberry. While I adore Neil’s work, I was holding out hope for Cory Doctorow’s Little Brother, which was a truly awe-inspiring novel and will be required reading in our house once Baz is old enough to get most of it.
More details on WorldCon will come on Tuesday – we’ll be driving all day Monday. It’s been a wildly successful convention, both for Crossed Genres and for the fun we’ve had.
