Except he’s somehow taught the bridge computer how to swear

I’m a bit giddy at the moment. I worked so hard on the magazine today that I’ve gone through exhaustion and out the other side to slap-happy.

Issue 11? That’s done. Except for a couple fiddly things, most of which can’t be done until the last couple days of the month anyway.

Today I:

– merged the pieces of the PDF into one, completing it
– formatted, combined, proofed and uploaded the Kindle edition, & entered all info. Just need to hit “Publish” at the right time.
– completed formatting of the PRC, then constructed and finalized it
– created webpages for all of issue 11, added the content, and finished all other web formatting
– mailed 2 packages containing 12 copies of various issues

If I’d had a ship’s bridge with a computer handy? Yeah, it’d be cussing like a sailor now.

(Of course I realized afterward that I’d forgotten to include a piece of paperwork with one of the packages of issues. *HEADDESK* So I’ll be faxing or mailing that out tomorrow.)

Amazingly, I got all of that done before 9pm tonight, so this evening I’ve taken the time for some well-earned goofing off. (Recorded episodes of Whose Line Is It Anyway?, a sandwich and mango juice. Don’t judge me. We’re out of Doritos.)

Tomorrow begins our in-earnest prep for Issue 12. Of course, there’s only so much we can do ahead of time, but we do have some of the content in hand, so we’ll get to work editing that, and there’s prep for the various editions that we can do. Plus, I’m working on another layout for the issue – I’ve always been just a bit annoyed at the slightly sterile look of the inside of our print editions, and I want to – not jazz it up, just make it a little more fun. Less rigid. Anyway, I may not have time, but we’ll see.

Submissions are still coming in, but we’re keeping up with them – actually I think right now there’s only one story in our “Unread” folder. Numbers-wise we’re doing all right, but we’re still hoping for a big onslaught of submissions so we have our largest pool yet to choose from. Still two entire weeks left to submit though, and I’m pretty sure that a lot of people are writing/polishing at this point.

NOTE: We’d love more art and/or nonfiction submissions too! We always get a good number of Fiction submissions, which is great of course, but we’re constantly short on artwork and articles. As we’ve said, for this issue especially we really want to offer as many voices as possible.

ETA: For some reason I keep forgetting to mention this: September 14 (this past Monday) marked exactly 1 year since Crossedgenres.com went live! I’ll be more pleased when we reach a full 12 issues released (November 1) or a full calendar year with issues out (November 30). But still, this is kind of a neat milestone.
