I’m sane but I’m overwhelmed

One of the two declarations in this post’s title is a lie.

Today was one of those days where I got a lot done, but the todo list didn’t seem to get any shorter. I hate those days… no matter how much you accomplish you feel like a lazy bum.

The most important thing I did was take the lightened image of the Issue 11 cover (Kay did the lightening – she’s the artist around here), converted it to PDF and resubmitted the issue. As soon as I get the go-ahead I’ll be ordering a 2nd proof, probably with a rush on the delivery.

I created an image for next month’s Current Genre (It’s Action/Adventure), to go on the website when Issue 11 is released.

For prepping Issue 12, I spent some time updating my MS Word templates of various pages on the website. This one’s going to be tricky in some ways, since we’ve never had to fit so much content on individual pages. I spent almost an hour trying to arrange various links and thumbnail images on the Archives page – it was harder because we still don’t know exactly how much of certain content there’s going to be. Usually by this point our articles & interviews are set, but the LGBTQ issue is the exception: we’re still getting article submissions, which we’re thrilled by, but which makes planning a bit harder. And of course, we always accept black-and-white art submissions for the entire month too, so those are still coming in occasionally.

We’ve been reading more, too. Got all caught up on Issue 12 submissions. Now we’re really hoping to see an end-of-month surge in subs, as we’re actually just slightly off last month’s pace. But last month we received about 40% of our submissions within the final six days – not unusual for us, and we’re hoping to see at least the same percentage still to come! Remember, only 9 days left to submit to the LGBTQ issue!
