So very professional

I sent 2 emails today that were… out of the ordinary.

The first was an email to some (not all) of the contributors from Issue 4, asking them to please deposit the payment checks they were sent, or email me if they never received them. It’s been over 3 months now, so I figure they should have them deposited by now. (It’s not a big deal, but it does make it appear that there’s more money available than there actually is.)

The second was to an author whose story we want to publish in Issue 8. See, I hadn’t heard from him, so I went into my “sent” emails to make sure I had, in fact, sent the email that I remembered. Well, it turns out I had, and that I’d done something quite boneheaded. I wrote a little note to myself that said “DESCRIPTION: WHY WE LIKED IT”, to remind myself that I wanted to tell the author what it was that sold us on his story. And then I forgot, and just sent the email with “DESCRIPTION: WHY WE LIKED IT” instead. So the second unusual email from today was an apology for my idiocy.

I did do some editing today, but still have a ways to go. I did some other communicating, including with an author about an upcoming interview. I also kept track of Project Wonderful, although I didn’t place any new ads.

Oh, and we received yet another submission that’s too short for us. This one’s especially ironic, as it’s about 650 words: too short of the magazine, too long for the Flash Fiction contest. (Speaking of which, only 5 days left to submit to the Flash Fiction Contest! Get your submissions in!)

Tomorrow evening I’m getting together with a friend. So during the day, any spare time I have I’ll be editing. We’re behind our usual schedule atm – nothing we can’t handle, but I’d like to get us back on track.
