bmoore, if your husband created his own registered account on the site then there’s no reason he shouldn’t be able to vote. Did he verify the account when he got the confirmation email? There are a couple unverified accounts and you can’t read/vote until your account is verified.

I am unsure of this entire process to vote for the flash fiction. I have voted for a story, but then my husband tried and he could not. We can register, but he could not vote. He has a different email address than me. What are we doing wrong. This also happened at work with 2 friends, one could vote, the other could not.

Perhaps we are doing something wrong????

William T. Vandemark, your concern was already taken into account. The finalists will be on a page that has limited access – only those who have registered accounts on the site and are logged in will be able to read them. This protects first publication right; it’s a technique used by many online writing communities. Only the rights of the overall winner will be used; the winning story will be posted openly once the voting is over.

I’d like to enter the contest, but the way it’s set up makes this problematical. By putting the ten finalists online, you are in effect publishing them (albeit for ten days). My understanding is that most other magazines, online or print, will not accept a story that has previously been made available to the public whether on one’s own blog or on an third party site, even if unpaid.

You follow this policy yourself. Your own guideline #3 states: “Unpublished stories only (including online).”

In effect, the finalists, other than the winning story, may be rendered unsaleable. If you don’t win, it’s actually better if you don’t make the finals. This seems unfortunate. Anyhow, best wishes. Look forward to reading the stories.
