Guidelines & Prizes
ENTRY GUIDELINES:
- 2,500-10,000 words
- 1 entry per person
- Only unpublished work
- Standard Manuscript Format – Manuscript Preparation by Vonda McIntyre
- Authors MUST cite the discovery/innovation which inspired their story, and provide relevant URL(s). The URL must have been first posted after January 1, 2009. Entries which don’t include a relevant URL will be disqualified – NO exceptions.
- Entries will be accepted from April 1, 2010 through June 30, 2010.
- Entries must be sent via the online contest submission form. Do NOT send contest entries via the Crossed Genres magazine submission form, or via email!
- Winners will be announced July 21. The top 3 stories will be published online at the time of official announcement.
- The top three stories will be published on the Crossed Genres website for one (1) year.
RIGHTS:
- Exclusive Electronic Rights for a period of one (1) year from the date of first online publication.
- Exclusive Print Rights for a period of one (1) year from the date of first print publication. If these rights are not used within 6 months of the date of first Electronic publication, they revert to the author.
- First Place: $250, a 2-year online subscription to Crossed Genres, and a print copy of Crossed Genres Year One
- Second Place: $100,a 1-year online subscription to Crossed Genres, and a print copy of Crossed Genres Year One
- Third Place: $50, a 1-year online subscription to Crossed Genres, and a print copy of Crossed Genres Year One
- Honorable Mentions (3): A 1-year online subscription to Crossed Genres, and a print copy of Crossed Genres Year One. Names and story titles will be published on the website.
LEGAL STUFF:
- By submitting to the Science in My Fiction contest, you agree to all the terms and conditions laid out in these guidelines should your story place in the top 6.
- The decisions of the judges are final.
- Only the authors of the prize-winning entries and Honorable Mentions will receive notification.
- Entries which do not follow the guidelines will be automatically disqualified.
- Contest judges and the editors, assistant editors and slush readers of Crossed Genres are ineligible to enter the contest.
- The top 3 stories will be published in the Subscribers area of the Crossed Genres website, exclusively for subscribers, for a period of one (1) year.
- Digital and print editions of the top 3 stories will be produced only if enough preorders can be raised before the end of the contest. Please visit the Kickstarter page to preorder the print edition.
- The 3 stories which receive Honorable Mentions will not be published by Crossed Genres (unless the authors submit them for publication in the magazine!).
- The winning authors agree to receive, sign and remail a limited number of copies of the print edition (Maximum 25). Crossed Genres will pay all necessary shipping costs.
