Crossed Genres is looking for a completed novella (20,000-40,000 words) to publish exclusively in our “Subscribers” area. The novella will be published in 4 weekly installments over the course of one calendar month. After the entire novella has been published, it will remain online for the next calendar month and then be removed.

What to include in your submission:

To submit your novella, please use the submissions form. Write the title of your novella and your name in the Subject line. Submission attachments must be .doc, .docx or .rtf. Use Standard Manuscript Format.

NOTE: Crossed Genres does NOT accept Multiple or Simultaneous submissions for novellas.

What are we looking for?

The story must be Science Fiction and/or Fantasy; blending of other genres is fine, but not required.

Beyond that, there is no hard-and-fast rule; any story that follows the above guidelines will be considered.
Since the story will be published in 4 parts, it needs to be compelling throughout, preferably with multiple
“high” points (cliffhangers are good!). We tend to favor character-driven stories, but that doesn’t mean we won’t appreciate a strong action piece. Make your characters fascinating and your plot engaging. If we like your initial submission, we will request you send us the entire novella.

While Crossed Genres will consider any submissions, We’re unlikely to be interested in concepts which seek to build on currently popular themes. If you’ve described your novella as “[Bestselling Novel #1] meets [Bestselling Novel #2]“, it’s probably not what we’re looking for.

Compensation:

Crossed Genres will pay a flat $20 upon publication. Publication in an anthology is not guaranteed, but if the novella is selected, author will receive royalties based on sales.

Rights:

Crossed Genres takes exclusive worldwide electronic rights for three months, and non-exclusive worldwide print and electronic rights for two years, for the anthology. Three months after first publication, all rights (except the non-exclusive anthology rights) revert to the author.
