Crossed Genres is accepting “pitches” for a webcomic with a finite storyline to be published online for one year, as part of our exclusive subscriber content. After the entire story has been published online, Crossed Genres will publish the complete comic as a graphic collection.

What to include in your submission:

  • Your personal contact information, including applicable credits (in the email’s body)
  • A letter containing a detailed yet concise synopsis of your planned story
  • Samples of your art, or a link to your online gallery
  • A sample sketch of the primary character(s), and an action sketch (more is welcome)
  • To submit your webcomic, please use the submissions form. Write the title of your webcomic (if it has one) and your name in the Subject line.

    What are we looking for?

A webcomic story idea to run for 52 weekly installments over the span of one year. While occasional one-shot comics within the webcomic are okay, Crossed Genres is not looking for an entire year of one-shots. We want a continuous story arc that will run from beginning to end in 52 installments.

The webcomic’s story must be Science Fiction and/or Fantasy based; blending of other genres is fine, but not required. Beyond that, there are no restrictions; we will consider pitches which are serious or silly; 3-panel, 4-panel, 20-panel, anywhere in between, or have no fixed length. The art style can be cartoony, anime, or Impressionist if you can make it work (and can maintain the necessary schedule). It can be set in present-day New York, ancient feudal Japan, or on a garbage scow circling Alpha Centauri.

Webcomics are a strange animal; exceptional writing can sometimes make up for subpar art, while gorgeous art can sometimes be enough motivation to read a weak story. However, we’re more likely to be interested in submissions where one doesn’t overshadow the other.

If we like your initial submission, we will contact you to discuss it further. We may ask you to provide a full comic as an example.

One more thing: This is a commitment to produce a full year’s worth of webcomics, and to do so in a timely fashion. You’ll be obligated to produce comics at least a month ahead of their release date so there’s a buffer in case of an emergency. The first comic won’t be released until we have at least five (5) completed comics in hand. Please bear the required schedule in mind when submitting. (If you want to work far ahead, we’re absolutely fine with that!)

    Compensation:

Crossed Genres will pay $10 per month for the length of the webcomic’s run – just like our short story compensation. When the webcomic is published in its entirety, the author will receive royalties based on sales.

Turnaround time for responses should be under 45 days; if you have not heard back from us in 60 days, please query. Due to limited time (we work full-time jobs, too!), rejected submissions will probably receive a form letter via email. We apologize for these impersonal responses.

If you still have questions on how to submit, please email: webcomic@crossedgenres.com
